A small red proof that conquest is overrated and cultivation is not.

Cultivation also does not leave a bitter taste in your mouth, unless that’s what you’re growing for.

Indeed. Maybe we are also gardens, and we slowly cultivate what we become.

These Waiting Boughs

~

I tend the beds of my own growth,

trunk and bough,

with the will reach the sky.

~

Beneath me the garden has wilted,

the shade too much for the past,

and those who climbed

this rough bark only memories,

~

but the sun brings green shoots,

the air filled with mysteries

and things still to see,

and I will push further.

~

What and who will live

within my canopy,

hugged by foliage

I do not know today,

the future rides other sunrises.

~

Until the future meets me,

I will follow the seasons,

resting, growing, shedding,

the leaves unfurling and falling

to their own cycle,

and watch the garden bloom

beneath these waiting boughs.
